DB Test Track
Included below are various photos provided by members of the David Brown test facilities adjacent to the Meltham works. The black and white photographs show a 1490 undergoing tests on what the caption describes as the RTP rig. This sounds quite a grand description until the full title is known – it strands for Round The Pole!
The 3 colour photos show the track in more recent times. The last one is taken after tidying up work by the local preservation society, keen to preserve the areas historical heritage.
The last four photos were provided by Mike Brogden and show the original track running down the old railway set. The track was designed and set-up in 1968 and was first used seriously for early 1200 tests prior to official performance testing being undertaken. The prints show the track as it was at opening, Mike comments that at the time they did not have the load-car completed and still had to rely on the old 5G prototype for loading. The driver in the picture was Eddie Herbert.
