I have a water pump (995) with a slightly loose shaft. It does not leak but it shudders and sometimes rubs the rotor into the casting. I can tilt the fan blade slightly by hand.

My question is: should I consider to rebuild it, if so is there a blow up of parts and a how to guide anywhere? I don't get any result with the search feature here.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Stan

Hi Stan,

There is an exploded parts diagram of your water pump here on the Case IH Parts Store:
http://partstore.caseih.com/us/parts-se ... 887-251108

The fact that the rotor is hitting the casting suggests that the impeller bearing is worn. However, the bearing itself may have worn away inside the pump casting.

Although you can buy a separate water pump overhaul kit (about £55+ shipping) in UK, if it turns out that the casting has been damaged, then that is all wasted. You can buy a new pump for £75.

If your rotor is as loose as you say, then it might not take much for the blades to hit your radiator, resulting in more damage and cost. Mine leaks but doesn't shudder, but I think I will buy a new pump rather than risk a repair.
