I have recently purchased yet another 880 selectamatic and it is shod with 11/28 making the tractor sit down at the rear, all of the other 880s that I have are all 32" rims can somebody let me know which is the correct size for this trac tor.

Both. Factory fitted with 11.4x32, 11.4x28 option. 11X32 gave higher road speed and is ideal for road work but lessened the power put down on the ground in field work than what the 11x28 would and of course the 11x28's would be a lot slower on the road.

Tim thankyou for your prompt reply. I thought that it would be something along those lines, would it be possible to find out what size wheels it left the factory with?

Also I have just qouted for a job not far from you near trenchford reservoir I will let you know if it comes off.

regards

Jeremy

880's Jeremy left the factory with either size fitted, as I said, 32's were the standard factory fitment but you could have the 28's fitted as an option at the factory if you specified 28's when you ordered a new 880 through your dealer, the dealer would have made the customer aware of the optional wheel and tyre equipment and then the dealer would put in the order to the factory. Same went for the front wheels, factory fit was 6.00x16 or 6.50x16 with the option of 7.50x16. The 990 original wheel equipment was 12.4x32 rear and 6.50x16 front or the option of 12.4x36 rear and 6.50 or 7.50x19 front, 19" front would bring the front up to level the tractor on 36's. Yes, let me know if you come down for the job, I'm 2 and 1/2 miles from Trenchford by road and about 1/2 that as the crow flies.

I always thought white 990s was standard on 12x36s/ 600x19s, also had the option of 13.6x36/ 7.50x16, 12.4 x 32/600 x 16 or 14.9x30/7.50x 16s. 880 was available on 14.9/13x28s / 600 x 16 fronts, 12.4 x 28 / 5.50 x 16 fronts, or 12.4 x 32 / 600 x 16 fronts

The "user manual" for the 990 suggest standard 6.00-19 front 12.4/11-36 rear although alternatives are given as front, 6.00-16 and 7.50-16 and rear 13.6/12-36 and 12.4/11-32 (although it also mentions 12.4/11-28 elsewhere)

Our 880 is sat on 28" rears (I think 12.4/11) and 6.00-16 fronts and the 990 is currently on 13.00-30 rears and 7.50-19 fronts.

Tyre sizes are different in Aust the tractor agents like to put bigger tyres on there tractors,i have said on an earlier post back in the early 1960s the 990 implematic was fitted with 18.4x30 rear 750x16 front as a option standard was 16.9x30 rear. For a 880 they were fitted with 14.9x28 and 600x.16.ithink that is an ideal size for the 880. The 990 was regarded as a fairly big tractor at the time and was used for broadacre farming, i know many farmers that used them working them around the clock[.THE GOOD OLD DAYS]Cheers TomWill DBTC AUST

The tyre and wheel sisez and options I mentioned were the basic norm but other options were available, as Cambs and expat mention there were alternatives to the normal options but these were 'special order' or aftermarket options available through your dealer. Export tractors were offered with different options depending on the Country, the main point of the standard factory equipment and the options was that the wheel centres on the rear and the axle beams on the front were ajustable to either widen or narrow the track width according to requirements and ground conditions without needing to go to the extra expence of fitting other wheel arrangements and wider tyres as these larger options were less ajustable, if you were operating the tractor in soft or wet conditions then you could fit the wider tyre and rim configureation and so-on, David Bropwn thought about these things, not like Ford, if you wanted wider wheels and tyres on them you had to rob them off the combine.
