| On the 885 the reductions are 9/37 on the 780 I think they are 11/49, did they reduce(?)the 885 because of the 12 speed gearbox? would the 12 speed box fit into a 780 ? |

Hi SriketRogers,
Are You sure about the ratios? As far as I know, 885 is more or the less next generation of 780. The ratios shoud be equivalent. Isnt 885 synchro? I doubt if the boxes are straight interchngeable, somebody knows better.

Purely a guess... I cant back this up with fact!
I would think there is not much different between both, and the different ratios were an option, so you could have a slow tractor, or a faster tractor.
780 was offered with 12 speed, so I doubt it would be because of that...

I quess the ratio of the spiral bevel is different in 770, 780 and 885 from bigger models, thats why the final drive ratio is closer to 1:4 than 1:5. A 950 or 990 imple gets a new life if they get modified final drives from 780 or 885. Road speed grows considerably thus making them more comfortable on road runs.

| Im on a similar project myself as what you describe erkki, im going to graft a set of 8 stud 990 hubs to a set of 11/49 880 selectamaic final drives, mine being an early 990 it has the narrower brakes shoes, and the 880 final drives are identical castings, with smaller hubs and different gears, im just hoping the input shafts on the 880 are the same length, anybody know if it will work or not? |

all tractors from 780 to 1494 have 7/43 tooth crown wheel and pinion.1410/12 and 6 pots have 8/41 crown wheel and pinion.
9/37 reductions are faster then 11/49 by about 8%, 25D and 30D and probably cropmasters have 10/37 which is about 11% faster then 9/37 reductions. also 12 speeds are no faster then a 6 speed |

Hi Cambs 1594,
I think the drive line of 880 selecta is identical with 990 except of the stud pattern in the wheel hubs. Where I live, in 1969..1970 also 990:s were available by 11/49 final drives. They will do over 30 kph on road.
We have seen here also 990 imple by 30D final drives. They require some small modification before the shafts fit. If I dont remember wrong, in 30 the shafts are uequal in length and the short one must be changed to one longer before it works.
