Hi guys, i've just been out and bought a CAT 2 top link for my 1490 as my trusty owners manual states that the 3pt linkage is CAT2. But when i went to fit the top link the retaining pin was too big to go through the holes and the ball joint on the link was too wide to go between the mounting points on the top link bracket.

you need a cat 1 tractor end and cat 2 implement end, only tractors what had cat 2 both ends were 6 cylinder tractors with lower link sensing

I usually end up putting a bushing in a Cat 2 top link on mine. I only have one real DB cat1 to cat 2 link, and it is usually occupied when I need it.

the original 1390 top link had a ball with 2 holes, cat 1+2, to go with the interchangable lower links, also cat 1+2, the 1494 of ours only has a cat 2 ball at the implement end. Another thing, the early single rate sensing units like on a 990 for example, wont accept the later DB cat 1 top link ends, they had an even smaller version, more like a fergy or a dexta

i've been back to the shop and exchanged the top link for a cat 1 (tractor end) & 2 (implement end) and the holes are the correct size but the link is still too wide to go between the brackets of the sensing unit! GRRRRRRRR! out with the grinder!
