They must have done well - he's put another identical pair on now!

Or am I being naive? I wonder if these "Auction Spys" (not sure of the real name) are causing the problem - where they can put a bid in within a second or two of the auction closing and can be set so that they always win. Get two of those running against each other and who knows what you'd end up bidding!

You will often find that a seller will have a circle of freinds and sometimes another computer on which they register another username in order to 'run-up' their items to attempt to make as much of a killing as they can and also hope that someone else will jump in with a bid. This way a seller can avoid putting a reserve price on an item avoiding higher listing fees and if it appears to sell it could well be a 'virtual' sale as feedback can then be left from one of the 'freinds' who has 'won' it. I know of several that have done this in the past and these sellers soon become quite evident when you have been on eBay for a number of years. My advice is be very cautious and only bid what you are prepared to pay and don't just get sucked in.
