Tractor Testing 1982
A David Brown, Case 1390 tractor undergoing testing in August 1982. Endurance tests were carried out on a large circular track known as the greenway, where tractors were connected to a central pivot via a boom.
Around the track, adjustable bumps were positioned for the tractor to repeatedly drive over. Once the test began, the tractor operated without a driver at speeds of up to 4 mph for approximately 100 hours. Water sprays simulated heavy rainfall, and technicians monitored the entire process via CCTV.
These endurance tests were designed to assess the durability of the transmission, detect any fatigue or rattles in the body panels, identify loosening in major castings, and uncover potential oil leaks.
